The Lord does not promise we will escape hardship in this world. However, like a Good Shepherd, He promises never to leave us along the way, providing for our temporal needs even as He prepares us for eternal life.

Trinity 6

Our anger does not accomplish the purposes of God. Vengeance is His alone. We meet each day not in fear or anger, but confident that our Father in heaven will break and hinder every evil plan of the devil, the world, and our sinful nature. We pray that He would graft His love into our hearts, increase our faith, and nourish us in all good things.

God has good things stored up for us that pass all understanding. He pours His love into our hearts so that we may love Him above all things, and trust that in His Word, He reveals to us where to find His gifts.

All things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose. We live in a world in which God is fulfilling His purposes, our salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. When our road is dark, when things aren’t going as we planned, we may fail to see God at work. May the Holy Spirit open our eyes by the light of the Word that we may see rightly again, and trust even through darkness.

God works faith in us by His Holy Spirit, and He never fails to help and govern us. We pray that He would always preserve the fear and love of His Holy Name in us, so that we may call upon it in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks.

God hears our prayers because He is merciful. We are beggars, but He pours out His riches on us. We pray this day that He would save us from our bodies of death and raise us with His Son, Jesus Christ, strengthened to walk in His commandments.

Trinity Sunday

Trinity Sunday
Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471 – 1528 ), The Trinity, 1511, woodcut, Rosenwald Collection

God has given us grace to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity. We pray that the Holy Spirit would keep us in the faith of our confession and lead us to worship the Unity in the power of the Divine Majesty.

Everyone keeps talking about getting back to normal, or resigning ourselves to a new normal, or asking whether what we considered to be normal was actually good. What is normal? What does it mean? How does it shape our lives?

Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471 – 1528 ), Pentecost, probably c. 1509/1510, woodcut, Rosenwald Collection

The Spirit of the Lord fills the world, and the righteous shall be glad. Alleluia! We celebrate that on this day, almost two-thousand years ago, our God taught the hearts of His faithful people by sending them the light of His Holy Spirit. We pray that He would give us the same Spirit in our day, so that hearing His Word we would have a right understanding in all things and rejoice in His Holy consolation.

Alleluia! Christ is risen! We pray for God not to turn His face from us when we cry aloud to Him. We trust that He loves us for the sake of Jesus Christ His Son who ascended at His right hand, victorious over death to prepare a place for us. Jesus speaks to us through His Holy Spirit, to keep us from falling away.
