Howdy! It’s good to have you here.

At Grace Lutheran Church in Gordon, NE, we’re delighted to welcome you. Whether you’re a lifelong Lutheran or exploring faith for the first time, our doors are open to you.

What to Expect:

  • What about my kids? Children are welcome in our services, and we offer Sunday School during the education hour.
  • What should I wear? Some men will wear slacks and a tie, some ladies a dress or skirt, but other people will have just finished chores and still be in boots and jeans. Either way, they are showing up eager to receive Christ’s gifts.
  • Where should I park? You can park on either the south or west side of the building, and you can enter on either side as well. If you need an accessible entrance, the south side is where you’ll want to enter.
  • What is our service like? Our services follow the historic liturgy, featuring hymns from the Lutheran Service Book and The Lutheran Hymnal.
  • What is the preaching like? Each service focuses on the gifts God gives us in His Word. The sermons are based on the scripture readings from the Historic Lectionary, and in the liturgy, we learn to speak and sing God’s Word back to Him in prayer and praise.
  • Can I take communion? We believe that in the Lord’s Supper, Christ truly gives us His body and blood for the forgiveness of sins and the strengthening of faith. Because of the profound unity this meal signifies, and because of the warning and teaching of the Holy Spirit we practice closed communion, inviting to the Lord’s Table those who are confirmed members, in good standing, of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) or of congregations in full altar and pulpit fellowship with us, who desire Jesus’ true body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. This practice reflects our commitment to the unity of faith and doctrine as taught in Scripture. If you are visiting and desire to receive this precious gift, please speak with our pastor before the service so we can welcome and prepare you properly.

Why come to church?

At our church, Christians gather to receive the gifts our Lord has promised—seeking forgiveness, mercy, and the assurance that their prayers are heard by the Lamb of God. We come as sinners in a dying world to experience the healing presence of Christ, to be nourished by His life-giving Word, and to partake in Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, in which Jesus forgives us and makes us new.

As we prepare for the Divine Service, we reflect on the blessings we have received, examine our lives for areas needing forgiveness, healing, and restoration, and approach the Altar of the Lord with humble gratitude. By praying according to God’s Word and thoughtfully considering our challenges and triumphs, we trust in the promise that the Lord will mend broken relationships, bring healing, and pour out His abundant blessings. Join us as we seek to live out our faith, growing in spiritual strength and faithfully following the call of our Savior.

After the service, we take what our Lord has given us back into our lives, saved by grace, created in Christ as His workmanship, loving God and serving our neighbor in the good works which He has prepared for us.
